SClarkson | The next Goldberg Space Memorabilia auction will be held Saturday April 19, 2014. The auction is now online and it promises to be a very interesting sale. A few highlights. - Two very nice Robert Goddard drawings with rocket part depictions
- Orville and Wilber Wright signed Cabinet cards.
- Several items from the Dick Gordon collection including two flown (and used) Apollo 12 cue cars – notated, signed with COAs
- Several Flight Controller large 3 ring binders and cue cards — from Mission Control (various missions)
- Numerous items from the "Space Lady" collection – very nice and some rather unique
- Mission Control Console back-lit displays (the first of these "DDDs" displays believed to be offered)
Take a look. |
Joel Katzowitz | There are some really unique items listed in the auction catalog. The Goddard drawings are fascinating but just a bit out of my price range. Maybe I missed something, but who is the "space lady" that contributed so many lots? |
eems | She is Judith M Bosworth according to one of the listed items. |
CJ | This Saturday's Goldberg auction has an IBM laptop, lot #954. Does anyone have any idea how many of these would have flown on a typical shuttle flight? |
neo1022 | Yes, I'm wondering who this Judith Bosworth is as well. The "Space Lady" appellation suggests she's someone known, but a search came up with nothing... I purchased two lots, and would like to know more about the provenance... Anybody have any information? |
YankeeClipper | The 1930s Robert Goddard's Binoculars Lot (Lot 825) has a few clues... Binoculars actually used by Goddard to view his rocket tests. Made by J.C. Freeman & Co, Worchester, the binoculars come with the original case. The "Space Lady" and Mrs. Goddard became friends. The binoculars were acquired by the "Space Lady" from Mrs. Goddard. Unique piece of Robbert Goddard memorabilia and of the history of American Rocketry. Lot also contains two B&W photos (8x10") of the Space Lady's display of space memorabilia at North American Rockwell in the 1970s that included the binoculars. |
neo1022 | Interesting tidbits you pulled out of the auction descriptions... I'll be picking my items up this week at the auction house, and will see what I can learn. Of course, if I learn anything interesting, I'll post it here. |
gliderpilotuk | Did anyone place any absent bids via Invaluable.com? I'm curious because I did, but watching the auction live, none of my bids appeared in the live auction even though several we're higher than the opening bid on the live auction. I think I won a few items by bidding live but I do question the interaction of Invaluable and Goldberg. |
fredtrav | I bid absentee on the Goldberg site as wel as live during the auction. I think I won several live but they have not appeared in my account as of yet. I do know I won two items I bid absentee on their site. |
rgarner | I had a similar problem. My account showed one successful bid, but there were in fact two. I emailed them and received the below reply a day later - looks like it was just a bit of an IT glitch. My advice is to email them and just confirm your purchases. I just spoke with our IT specialist and he said that it appears that you in fact are the successful bidder on lot XXX. He also mentioned that it hasn’t appeared on your purchases because we are in the process of double checking and finalizing the internet bids for the sale. Once the verification process for internet bids is complete, it should show up on your purchases. |
GACspaceguy | Anyone receive an invoice yet? Maybe I have the process wrong and I need to be reaching out to them. If anyone has understands the process could you let me know. I did not want to contact them as I was trying not to bug them. Thanks. |
rgarner | I haven't had mine yet, but don't worry they will get around to it. I'm eager to give them my money too. |
idrvball | I haven't received my invoice either. Sometimes it takes them a few weeks. Then the invoice just appears! |
NJSPACEFAN | I called Friday and was told the invoices will be going out Monday. |
neo1022 | Picked up my items on Friday. if you're in Los Angeles, just call and let them know when you'd like to come in. For orders that require S&H, I was told on Friday that they were computing shipping charges, and would be sending out the invoices early this week... |
GACspaceguy | I received an invoice via e-mail yesterday but unfortunately it told me no more than I already knew. There was the hammer price and the 20% buyers markup but no shipping/insurance costs. The invoice stated to call out to California and get the shipping/insurance if it is not stated. I did as instructed and talk to a human but got transferred to voice mail. I will try again today, hard to spend money. (tough for those of us who make a living in Product Support, and number one in our industry, as our expectations are high). |
GACspaceguy | I received a non-solicited call back today, which was appreciated. I have my total and can spend the money. |
gliderpilotuk | A big thanks to Goldberg for great items and excellent service. I can't believe I picked up this Apollo 11 oversized surface flown flag at the price I did (Lot 885). Okay, its not attached to a presentation certificate with autopen signatures but it comes consigned from a well-known NASA employee whose items have appeared at several earlier auctions. |
rgarner | Paul, you got hold of that for buttons! Bravo. |
